Perhaps Bob Jane’s best-known car from his storied racing career was the Chevrolet ZL-1 Camaro.
Seen by many as what we would call a Supercar nowadays, the car featured a 427 cubic inch alloy V8 and in it, Jane drove to his third ATCC crown in 1971, holding out Allan Moffat’s Mustang in a thrilling finale at Oran Park. Jane amassed 3 Round wins out of a possible 7, winning Round 3 at Sandown Raceway, Round 5 at Mallala Race Circuit and Round 7 at Oran Park Raceway.
Jane finished the 1971 season with a total of 43 points overall, 6 points ahead of Allan Moffat and 7 points ahead of Ian Geoghegan in 3rd place.
Fearing a whitewash of the category, CAMS outlawed the huge engine for the following year and even with a 350 cubic inch motor, Jane wone four of the eight rounds to take his fourth and final ATCC title.
Classic Carlectables are proud to present a special Gold Livery Edition of the Chevrolet ZL-1 Camaro to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its 1971 Australian Touring Car Championship victory.
